Catch Sooner men's and women's baskball games this season at SRO - Northwest Mall.

SRO is the only sports bar in the Houston area that can access the Sooner Sports Network and Big 12 Sports Network satellite feeds. Most of the men's and women's basketball broadcasts are only aired and available in Oklahoma. SRO can pull down all of the Sooner basketball games on the Sooner Sports and Big 12 satellite networks.

Make Sure Your Kid is a Member of the OU Kids Club!

OU fans get started early in their support for the Sooners. The University of Oklahoma Sooner Kids Club provides special opportunities for young fans of OU's athletics teams.

Anyone from Kindergarten through 8th grade (age limits per NCAA rules) can join the club to enjoy a long list of benefits. An annual membership is only $30.

Members receive a t-shirt, membership card, a birthday card and an OU gift pack. In addition, Sooner Kids Club members receive special gifts and coupons courtesy of Subway.

Members also receive free admission to regular-season home events for OU soccer, volleyball, women's basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball, gymnastics, tennis, the Red/White Spring Football Game and special admission to Meet the Sooners Day for football in August.

Auction Winner Donates Autographed OU-Miami Photo

Robert Silverthorn, successful auction winner of the autographed OU-Miami photo last fall, has donated the photo to David Self and his wife Bonnie. David is Executive Pastor of Houston's First Baptist Church and a HUGE OU fan. David's wife Bonnie is an OU alumni.

The photo was taken during the 2007 OU-Miami game in Norman and was autographed by OU football head coach Bob Stoops and Miami football head coach Randy Shannon. David attended the 2007 OU-Miami game and is planning to add his ticket to the framed photo.

The President’s Associates Program is the single most successful private support program in the history of the University. President’s Associates provide unrestricted funding that allows President Boren to deal with critical issues and pursue initiatives that enrich OU’s academic mission. Help Keep Sooner Football Radio Broadcasts on the Air!

The OU Club of Houston is planning to bring live Sooner football radio broadcasts back to Houston for the 43nd consecutive year. It’s because of loyal, generous and continued support that Sooner football radio broadcasts remain on the air. Our fundraising goal is $45,000.

In order to fund the broadcasts, we need YOUR help!

There are two types of sponsorships: Personal and Corporate.

Personal Sponsorships: When you donate $25 or more, you name will be recognized on the air during live game broadcasts. For $100 and above, we will record a personal salutation that will air during each live game broadcast throughout the season.

Corporate Sponsorships: Corporate sponsorship packages are available for as little as $600. Several packages include FREE spots during both weekly Coaches’ shows, and FREE advertising on the OU Club Web site and Business Directory. We can run your existing spots or produce new 30-second or 60-second spots for FREE. Plus, we now have FREE promotion merchandising opportunities with your corporate sponsorship!

Alan Livingston Receives OU Regents' Alumni Award

Alan Livingston, OU Club of Houston social chairman, received the University of Oklahoma Regents’ Alumni Award for his dedication and service to OU in a May 9 ceremony held on the Norman campus.

Presented by the OU Board of Regents and the OU Alumni Association, the Regents’ Alumni Award is a testament to the important roles OU Alumni and supporters play in the life of the university.

During his college years at OU, Alan was a member of the Phi Beta Delta fraternity. Since earning his degree in political science in 1967, he has worked tirelessly to promote awareness of OU’s excellence. His service to OU in the Houston area in particular has been invaluable. He serves on the board of directors of the OU Club of Houston and is the founder of the OU in Houston Speaker Series, which has brought numerous OU faculty members to Houston to share their expertise with OU alumni and other community organizations. He plays an active role in recruiting prospective students and representing the interest of OU, frequently volunteering at college fairs in the Houston area. He is also involved in assisting OU graduates in finding jobs in Houston. He played an essential role in organizing the only Players’ Salute to Coach Switzer, which attracted more than 125 former players. The sellout crowd of more than 700 Sooner fans and was the largest OU event ever held in Houston.

In addition to being an asset to the university, Alan is a dedicated member of the Houston community. He has served on the board of advisors of the Houston Symphony and the New Music Society of Houston. He is an active member and advisor to the Houston World Affairs Council and Council of Foreign Relations, Houston Committee. He has served in many capacities with the Independent Petroleum Association of America and was the first president and co-founder of the Houston Producers Forum.

A committee formed by the Alumni Association selects award recipients from nominations made by alumni, friends and OU faculty and staff. The names of each year’s recipients are engraved on a permanent plaque in the Oklahoma Memorial Union.

Sandra O'Brien Receives OU Honorary Degree

Houston resident and OU Club of Houston Life Member Sandra O’Brien was awarded an honorary degree at the University of Oklahoma’s 2008 Commencement Ceremony, held Friday evening, May 11 at the Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

Sandra has a long record of support and service to the city of Houston and alumni leadership at OU and, in particular, the OU College of Education. A native of Oklahoma City, she earned her bachelor’s degree in education in 1957 from OU, where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.

Sandra is a charter member of the OU College of Education’s Board of Advocates and she and her husband, Brian E. O’Brien, an OU geology alumnus, made a major gift to the campaign to expand and renovate Collings Hall, the college’s home. Their concern for people with special needs led them to fund and equip the college’s Sandra L. O’Brien Computer Laboratory, which features special technology for training teachers in special education and assisting students with special needs. She has endowed scholarships for students majoring in special education, and she and her husband were the first donors to endow a Presidential Professorship. In 2006, she was honored with a Meritorious Service Award during the college’s Celebration of Education.

Outside the College of Education, Sandra serves on OU’s Campaign for Scholarships volunteer committee which to date has raised more than $125 million. She has also served on the Reach for Excellence Campaign, Centennial Celebration Committee and Alumni Association Executive Board. She is a President’s Associate and, in 2000, she received the Regents’ Alumni Award. The O’Brien’s are members of the Seed Sower Society, honoring donors of $1 million.

Her philanthropic involvement includes support for the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance, the only national volunteer health organization for that genetic disorder.

Sandra and her husband Brian are both Life Members and supporters of the OU Club of Houston and have lived in Houston for 45 years. The O’Brien’s have five children, two of whom are OU graduates, and 12 grandchildren, two of whom are current OU students.

Honorary Degrees are awarded by the University of Oklahoma to recognize alumni or other individuals for extraordinary achievement in such fields as science and technology, medicine, the arts and humanities, business and public service or in recognition of outstanding contributions to the welfare or the enrichment of the University, the state of Oklahoma, the nation or the world.

Golf Tournament Raises $3,300 for Scholarship Fund

Dozens of Houston-area golf enthusiasts took to the greens April 28 to raise money for the OU Club of Houston scholarship fund. The golf tournament was held at the beautiful Pecan Grove Plantation Country Club in Richmond. Eleven teams comprised of 43 players competed, raising $3,300 for the scholarship fund.

“We had a great turnout and a beautiful day for this year’s golf tournament,” said Tray Black, OU Club of Houston president and organizer of the event. “We certainly appreciate the support of the many OU alumni and friends in the Houston area that supported the tournament this year. The money raised will greatly benefit Houston-area high school student recipients who plan to attend the University of Oklahoma this fall.”

Each year, the OU Club of Houston awards two scholarships to outstanding Houston-area high school seniors who plan to attend the University of Oklahoma, one in the name of the OU Club of Houston and the second in the name of Robert and Jerry Simmer. Each scholarship is worth $2,000 per year, consisting of a $1,000 cash award from the OU Club of Houston and a matching $1,000 fee waiver from the University. It is renewable for three additional years provided the recipient maintains at least a 3.0 grade point average and remains enrolled as a full-time student.

Sooner Football Radio Broadcast

Since 1968, the OU Club of Houston has sponsored live radio broadcasts of Sooner football games. Again this year, the games can be heard live on KGOW-AM 1560, The Game. It’s a tradition in Houston, much like the games themselves. In addition to the games, the OU Club broadcasts the entire pre-game show, beginning 90 minutes before kick-off, as well as the post-game and locker room shows. The Club also airs Sooner Sports Talk with Bob Stoops and Coaches Corner featuring OU assistant coaches, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings respectively, beginning at 7:05 p.m. But we couldn’t broadcast the games and coaches’ shows without your help. The OU Club of Houston official football watch party headquarters is at Champps Americana, located in the Uptown Park Shopping Center, 1121 Uptown Park Blvd., (northwest corner of Post Oak Blvd. and the 610 Loop). However, there are many locations throughout the Houston area that Sooner alumni and friends gather to watch OU football. The OU Club’s goal for watch parties is to provide a smoke-free and kid-friendly environment so parents can feel comfortable bringing little Sooner fans to the games. And of course, fans will be treated to plenty rounds of Boomer Sooner and Oklahoma fight songs too!
